THANJAVUR: Periyar Maniammai University here will continue to enjoy the status of the Deemed University as per a report of a six-member committee constituted by the University Grants Commission as per the direction of the Ministry of Human Resources.
The committee has observed that all the conditions for a Deemed University already laid down have been fully complied with.
The Committee visited the University between August 19 and 21 and examined in detail the infrastructure, class room facilities, hostels, library and sports complex. The Committee has also met the staff and students and held discussions with them. The detailed overview of the report was considered by the UGC meeting held on October 9, 2009 and resolved to recommend continuation of the status of the deemed university for the institution, said a press release issued here on Friday.
In its observation, the committee has noted that the management encouraged the faculty members to undertake research projects in pursuance of the usual academic activities. The supportive role and responsiveness of the University has been greatly appreciated by the UGC. The newly-introduced credit transfer and relative grading (examination and) evaulation technique have been commended by the committee, the release added.
